On Windows 11, you have the ability to see if you have a solid state drive (SSD) or a hard disk drive (HDD). You can easily do so via the system settings app. Solid state drives are generally better than hard disk drives, because they are faster and don't take up as much physical space. Thus, if you care about performance and your computer slow, it is probably because you have an HDD instead of an SSD.
Step 1
Click the search button
Step 2
Type disks in the search box and then select Manage disks and volumes from the results. You will now see all of the drives on your PC.
Step 3
Look under each drive. It will say if you have an SSD or HDD.
Be Sure to Check SSD Health
The disk and volumes settings on Windows 11 also allow you to check the health of your SSD. This is important because if your drive was failing, you will now know ahead of time. This gives you time to create a back up of your files before the drive fails. Of course, even if your drive is healthy, it is still a good idea to periodically back up your files.
